PAD LONDON 2025
Booth n°A20
14-19 October
Berkeley Square
For this year’s PAD London edition, Galerie Mélissa Paul will present a thoughtfully curated selection of 20th-century furniture by renowned Italian designers Gio Ponti, Mario Quarti, and Carlo Rizzarda, shown alongside contemporary collectible design by visionary artists Clara Graziolino, Colo Studio, and Agnès Debizet. The presentation places a special emphasis on the poetic, sculptural creations of artist and designer Clotilde Ancarani.
Conceived in a harmonious palette of soft pastels and earthy tones, the selection establishes a refined dialogue between historical elegance and contemporary craftsmanship, allowing each piece to resonate within a cohesive and evocative visual narrative.
Using bronze as her main material, Clotilde Ancarani creates unique works at the crossroads of sculpture and design, contrasting with her delicate, organic forms. Surfaces adorned with meticulously hand-crafted patinas, at times evoking ancient relics, at others leather hides, merge with forms drawn directly from nature and imbued with new life. The transient essence of nature and the enduring permanence of bronze converge in each of her works, resulting in a poetic reinterpretation of the natural world.
The collection stands as a testament to the beauty and suppleness of organic textures, transformed from delicate to permanent through the process of bronze casting. This act of creation, which she has continually refined, has become a practiced art in which metal, as a medium, serves as a vessel for creativity and expression. No two pieces are ever exactly alike, thanks to a nuanced finish that imparts depth and character.
Through it, Ancarani unveils the dichotomous tensions at the heart of the human condition, with her works coming alive in a liminal space between object and spirit, intimacy and familiarity, perfection and imperfection, function and sculpture.
