Bringing together works that evoke cosmic phenomena through material, form, and process, this year’s PAD London presentation considers how the traces of these forces can be reimagined as furniture and functional objects—where impact becomes expression, rupture becomes form, and accident becomes creation.

This year’s PAD London presentation explores the imprint of the Cosmos on our imagination—and how its forces, movements, and ruptures can be translated into the language of collectible design.

Since the dawn of time, humanity has looked to the Cosmos to understand its mysteries and its profound relationship with Earth. Vibrations, oscillations, impacts, cracks, and collisions have shaped the geology of our planet, leaving traces of events both ancient and ongoing. The resulting forms—craters, fractures, and disruptions—transform destruction into new possibilities.

At the heart of the show is the idea of the accident as a moment of transformation. The Greek concept of kairos describes a decisive instant, a rupture that opens the possibility for something new. As Aristotle observed, “the accident reveals the substance.” Here, impact becomes not merely an act of destruction, but a generative force: a moment through which matter is disrupted, reconfigured, and given new form.
