Erwan Boulloud

Erwan Boulloud (b. France, 1973) graduated from the École Boulle in 1995. Since establishing his studio in 2003, he has worked across a wide range of materials, exploring the inherent qualities and possibilities of each to reveal its unique character. For the artist, matter becomes a field of experimentation: he burns, polishes, strips, dissects, and reconstructs materials to reveal their multiple facets and uncover their inherent depth.

Guided by a Darwinian logic, his creations emerge in a state of perpetual effervescence, then adapt and evolve to form lineages, crossbreeds, or mutations before eventually disappearing. His work, imbued with fundamental questions, takes root in a surprising artistic and metaphysical journey. ‘I have a passion for all somewhat mysterious organisms and minerals, like stones, fossils, corals, meteorites, insects… Anything that invites reflection, meditation, and wandering.’

By cultivating a fascination with diametric polarities and colliding forms, alongside a taste for the alliance of raw materials and skillfully executed processes, his work questions conventional notions of beauty and embodies a sense of wonder. With poetry, Erwan Boulloud draws us into a universe where history and storytelling intersect and intertwine, deliberately blurring the line between reality and fiction. Driven by cycles of transformation, the artist weaves connections between memory, esotericism, and science. He fuses organic forms with precious materials and stylistic references to illustrate intimate and timeless narratives where art engages with the extraordinary.

His works, true hymns to metamorphosis, reflect our relationship with life, its creations, and the tensions they evoke. They offer us a meditation on the mystery of the world around us, while opening the way to new fantasies and imagined possibilities.
